State per capita income rises, but far below tiol average

Guwahati, April 1: Though Assam’s per capita income has increased as compared to previous years, it remains much less compared to the tiol average, reflecting on the need for the State government to do far more than what is being currently done on the development front.

According to the Economic Survey Assam 2017-18, the per capita income of the State in terms of the Net State Domestic Product (NSDP) at constant prices is estimated at Rs 51,040 for 2016-17 (quick estimate) against Rs 48,725 in 2015-16 (provisiol estimate) with an increase of 4.75% during the period.  The same was Rs 41,142 in 2011-12.  The Annual Average Growth Rate (AAGR) during the period from 2011-12 to 2015-16 was 4.01%. The per capita NSDP at current price for 2016-17 was worked out at Rs 65,698 as against Rs 60,526 in  2015-16, registering a growth of 8.55%.

In 2016-17, the tiol per capita income at current prices was Rs 1,03, 219 (provisiol estmate), and at constant prices it was Rs 82,269 (provisiol estimate), both the figures being far higher than the Assam figures.

According to the survey, as per quick estimates, the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of the State had increased to Rs 2,49,800.96 crore during 2016-17, registering a growth of 10.55% over the previous year. As per provisiol estimates, the GSDP of the State at current price is estimated at Rs 2,25971.33 crore for 2015-16, registering a growth of Rs 15.45% over the previous year.

The NSDP of the State at current price has increased to Rs 2,22,749.64 crore during 2016-17 (quick estimate), registering a growth of 11.9% over the previous year, the report says, adding that the NSDP of the State at current price during 2015-16 (provisiol estimate) was estimated at Rs 2,00, 333.25 crore, which is an increase by 15.9% over the previous year.
