Steps taken to ensure privacy and support to women polling officials

TINSUKIA: The Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner, along with Subdivisional Officer of Margherita and Sadiya, as a part of election preparedness has taken extra measures to ensure privacy and infrastructural support to women polling officials to be engaged in polling stations in the face of unpleasant and unhealthy situations that occurred in past elections leading to resentment amongst women officials.

While the Tinsukia Zone of Assam College Teachers’ Association (ACTA), in a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia, has even sought complete exemption of women college teachers from election duties, the Tinsukia District Journalists’ Association (TDJA), led by its president Dr Rishi Das, discussed the issue with the respective Election District officials of Tinsukia, Margherita and Sadiya who assured that they would personally supervise women polling stations where women are likely to be engaged, before the poll date.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia, Oinam Sarankumar Singh along with other election officials started on spot inspection of women polling booths across the election district about the availability of minimum infrastructure. The Subdivisional Officer of Sadiya, Biswajit Phukan told this correspondent at Sadiya that he had been personally overseeing this sensitive issue.
