Steps taken to strengthen military cooperation between India, Bangladesh

Silchar: In order to enhance military cooperation between India and Bangladesh and to deepen better military ties, Lt. General M M Naravane, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, GOC-in-charge Eastern Command visited Bangladesh from March 18 to March 22. He commenced his tour on March 19 by paying homage to the martyrs at Dhaka in a solemn ceremony. He also visited Liberation War Museum and Bangabandhu Memorial Museum. He called on Riva Ganguly Das, the Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh at Dhaka on March 19. The Army Cdr attended a Mukti Jodha Scholarship felicitation ceremony as a guest of honour and distributed scholarships to the heirs of Mukti Jodhas.

The Mukti Jodha Scholarship scheme is named as ‘Notun India- Bangladesh Mukti Jodha Sontan Scholarship Scheme’. M M Naravane called on the services of Chiefs of Bangladesh Armed Forces, General Aziz Ahmed, BSP, BGBM, PGBM, BGBMS, PSC, G, Chief of Army Staff, Vice Admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury, NBP, OSP, BGGM, PCGM, BCGMS, NDC, PSC, Chief of Naval Staff and Air Chief Marshal Massihuzzaman Serniabat, BBP, OSP, NDU, PSC, Chief of Air Staff.

The General Officers discussed various aspects of defence cooperation including the positive outcomes of various joint events or expeditions being undertaken by the militaries of both the nations. M M Naravane also interacted with Lt General Sheikh Mamun Khaled, SUP, RCDS, PSC, PhD, Commandant, National Defence College Bangladesh and Major General Anwarul Momen, SBP, RCDS, PSC, Commandant, Bangladesh Military Academy and also visited various facilities of Bangladesh Military Academy. The visit is a positive step towards enhancing the bilateral defence cooperation of both the countries.
