Stick to your roots for prosperity: Nirmala Sitharaman

Itanagar: Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday called upon the people of North East not to forget their roots even if they learn several languages.

“Even you master in Hindi and learn lots of languages but never forget your own languages,” she said while delivering a lecture ‘Towards Bridging the Indo-China Relationship for an Emerging Asia’.

Terming North East as the pious land of the country, the union minister said that the entire country looks towards the region during religious functions to offer prayers to god and goddesses as people give priority to cardinal direction in culture.

“To look towards North-east is in our DNA and so the NDA government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, mooted the Act East Policy in place of Look East Policy under which activities in ground reality took long time,” she pointed out.

The Minister said, Prime Minister Modi after taking the reign of the country attached priority to the region and initiated steps to provide the region its legitimate facilities at par with other parts of the country.

“Today in NE states at least four ministers visit every month not for picnic but to complete all the schemes and projects of the Centre which was not materialised in the last fifty years,” Sitharaman said with conviction.
