Stolen Idol Siddheswar Devalaya Recovered

GUWAHATI: The historic Siddheswar Devalaya in Sualkuchi was robbed on November 23, and police authorities caught one Phatik Kalita on November 7 under suspicion. The accused is the son of the temple’s athpuriya (helper of the priest) and resides in the temple premises itself.

After a search operation with the accused, police authorities recovered a Shiv idol from a hole dug in the ground. However, two idols of Durga and Krishna (Bansi Gopal) made from light metal alloys, are still missing. Further enquiry is being made as the search for the missing idols are undertaken.
