TINSUKIA, July 19: The Tinsukia Regional Students’ Union has demanded adequate compensation and proper inquiry into the death of Bimal Sarma and his son Arnab Garg Sarma of Parbotia Tinsukia whose car was knocked down by Rajdhani Express on July 15 in a manned railway level crossing near Sialkoti Tea Estate in Chabua.

The union submitted a memorandum to the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Tinsukia on Thursday stating that due to negligence and fault of Railway personnel, the mishap took place. Bimal Sarma’s wife Anamika Sarma was also critically injured in the mishap.

The union demanded that besides adequate compensation to the bereaved family, the Railway should extend medical treatment to Anamika Sarma, adding that the member of the family should be given permanent employment in Railway. Also, the culprit/s should be brought to justice after proper inquiry. The memorandum stated that the AASU would not tolerate the irresponsible attitude of the Railway authority and warned that if the demands were not met, the students’ body would resort to democratic agitation.
