Sushma Swaraj confirms death of 10 Indians in the Sri Lanka blasts

Guwahati: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj confirmed that as many as ten Indians were killed in the series of blasts in SriLanka.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Sushma Swaraj said that she regrets to confirm the deaths of two more Indians A Maregowda and H Puttaraju in the blasts that took place in the Sri Lankan capital on Sunday. The death toll from the deadly suicide bomb attack in Sri Lanka rose up to 300 and more than 500 injured according to Sri Lanka police.

Police Spokesperson Ruwan Gunasekera in a statement issued to the media said that close to 500 people were seriously injured in the blast that took place in Sri Lanka. He further said in the statement that 40 people were now under arrest accused in the attacks which Sri Lanka government blamed it on little known local Islamist group National Thowheeth Jama'ath.

As authorities looked for those behind the bomb attacks, the Sri Lankans woke to emergency law on Tuesday. The President's office declared that emergency law would come into effect from midnight giving police extended power to detain and interrogate suspects in the absence of court orders. The authorities has also issued an overnight curfew in the island country.

A series of eight devastating bomb blasts ripped through high-end hotels and churches in the Sri Lankan capital on Easter Sunday.

After a series of explosions on Easter Sunday in Sri Lanka capital city Colombo and others, another explosion went off on Monday in a van near a church in Colombo when a squad of Special Task Force (STF) and Sri Lankan Air Force were trying to diffuse the bomb, as reported in an International news agency.

Also, the Sri Lanka Police found 87 bomb detonators at Colombo main bus station.

Late on Sunday, authorities defused an improvised pipe bomb on a road leading to the main terminal of the Colombo airport. Social media services continued to remain blocked in the country to curtail the spread of false information and ease tensions until the probe into the blasts is concluded.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy claimed four JD(S) workers were among the five Indians who were killed in the attacks on Easter Sunday.
