Itanagar, July 31: The official launch of Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2018 , a survey of rural cleanliness programme, has been made in several districts across the state.

Launched by the Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation on July 13 last, SSG-2018 envisages ranking all districts and states on the basis of qualitative and quantitative evaluation.

Swachh Survekshan Grameen for Tawang district was launched on Monday in presence of local MLA Tsering Tashi, ADC Lobsang Tsering, head of departments, gaon burhas, NGOs and ex-PRI members.

Speaking on the occasion, Tashi informed that the first ever rural cleanliness survey will have 6980 villages of various districts across the country competing with each other and will be ranked as per their cleanliness and sanitation status.

Reiterating that Survekshan is integral for the cause of Swachhta, the MLA opined that an honest reporting of cleanliness/sanitation status of the district should be made during the month-long programme (August 1-31) so as to determine the actual progress and also highlight the areas where the district needs to progress further.

Further, reflecting on the pivotal role of GBs, ASHAs and Anganwadi workers in mobilising masses, he appealed for their active and voluntary participation.

Launching the programme on Monday, Anjaw district DC Mamata Riba called upon each and every citizen of the district to work for ensuring that the hard earned status achieved on Swachhta till now was sustained and brought “fruits of delivering”. The programme was also launched in Upper Siang district on Monday by DC Duly Kamduk in presence of HoDs and other stakeholders.

Laying stress on the importance of Swachh Survekshan 2018, the DC exhorted that all concerned departments and stakeholders should work in unison and put in extra effort to make Upper Siang one of the top ranking districts.

The programme was also launched in West Kameng district where DC Dr Sonal Swaroop appealed the general public to come forward and embrace sanitation and make the district disease free.

At Dirang in West Kameng district, another launching of the programme was done by ADC Dagbom Riba, who appealed the citizens of Dirang sub-division to maintain cleanliness in their locality and to use the IHHL constructed under Swachh Bharat Mission (G).
