Sword of Ahom king handed over to State Museum

DIBRUGARH, May 7:  The Hengdan (Sword of Ahom King)  which was unearthed at Lukumai village under Khowang  Development Block in Dibrugarh District on March 16 this year, during digging out a pond under MNERGA scheme, was formally  hand over to the State Museum  

Handing over the sword to the Director of State Museum, Y H Wanglengton, at a function held at the DC’s conference room on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner MS Manivann, in his deliberation, hoped that the sword would open up new chapter  of Ahom Kingdom  through proper scientific  research and reveal many unwritten information about the past.

In reply, the Director of State Museum, YH Wanglengton assured the gathering that he would take all measures for its scientific preservation and to know its historical background.  He emphasized conservation of all such materials of past, unearthed in different parts of the State. Referring recent discovery of the Tiwa king’s sword at Tetelia in Morigaon district, the Director said, “All such discovered materials are the assets of the tion.”     

The meeting was attended by, amongst others, Superintendent of Police Ra Bhuyan, Additiol Deputy Commissioner, Hemanta Kumar th and official of State Museum, Supriya Brahma.

In another function, Deputy Commisioner Manivann formally laid the foundation stone of the District Planning Cell building.
