SHILLONG, April 27: The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) PN Syiem said that in his opinion the MDC and MP elections should be held separately.

Referring to the opinion put forth by the president of the United Democratic Party (UDP) Dr Donkupar Roy who is also the speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly  to have simultaneous election both for MP and MDC, the CEM of the KHADC said that he wish to differ on the issue though he refused to explain his reason of disagreement.

Syiem also said that MP election is a national election when people elect their MPs to represent in the Parliament, while MDC election is an election to the local body.

“These two elections cannot be held simultaneously,” he said.

The CEM of the KHADC agree in one point that if the election is held on the same day with the MP election it will help the District Council in election expenditure, but the purpose of the MP election and the MDC election is different so he (Syiem) opposed to the idea of having simultaneous election of MP and MDC.
