Tabu Walks the Ramp as Showstopper for Sanjukta Dutta

Bollywood superstar Tabu took the Lotus Make-up Indian Fashion Week stage on fire dressed in a beautiful Assamese silk ensemble for Designer Sanjukta Dutta. The theme “strong & empowered women” of Sanjukta Dutta’s new collection “Suwonee” was excellently portrayed by Tabu. She drifted down the ramp looking every bit regal adorning a signature Sanjukta Dutta Mekhela Chador in lusciously deep-toned Assamese silk handcrafted with delicate Kolki (paisley)motifs in a variety of colourful threads.

Designer Sanjukta Dutta’s new collection “Suwonee meaning urbane beauty - fierce yet feminine” showcases an exquisite Assamese silk collection of ethnic and indo-western creations including Sanjukta’s signature Mekhela Chadors, Saris, Lehengas, Skirts, Crop Tops and beautiful western gown.

Sanjukta Dutta’s creativity prowess speaks of craft, custom and beauty. She perfectly teams assorted motifs to give a unique contemporary blend to traditional attires. Her designs are rich in story-telling and mostly seek inspiration from Assam’s beautiful flora and fauna, rich Indian cultural heritage and folk music.

Most of the materials used in Sanjukta Dutta couture are locally produced from a particular type of silkworm found only in one specific village in Assam. Sanjukta Dutta’s art of handicraft takes a minimum of 45 days to bring into life a blissful ensemble and provides work opportunities to the many weavers including women whose craft got extinct due to lack of support to the handloom industry.

Sanjukta currently is overwhelmed to have multiple seasons of unprecedented success in many national and international fashion events plus being the chosen one from Assam among many designers to showcase the craft of North-east India by designing the logo of Yashraj’s film Sui Dhaga. She feels its a grand leap forward in her career debuting in the biggest fashion event of India, Lotus Make-Up IndFashion Week, organised by the Fashion Design Council of India -–country’s most prestigious non-profit fashion organisation.

“It was a fabulous experience to walk the ramp for Sanjukta Dutta and support the many rural women weavers of Assam who are extremely skilled but cannot find a proper platform to showcase their craftsmanship. Sanjukta Dutta’s beautiful ensemble promotes the rich Indian culture and heritage while benefiting the valuable Indian textile industry. I totally relate to the representation of a woman that the collection “Suwonee” speaks for which is beauty, independence, and empowerment. I wish Sanjukta and her brilliant team of artisans a great future.” shared Tabu.

“Our new collection Suwonee is mystical, colourful and wearable, designed for the modern independent Indian woman to highlight their beauty and feminism at par. Tabu brought the right character to the essence of “Suwonee”. It’s beyond a dream to be able to customise an ensemble to suit someone as beautiful as Tabu”, shared Designer Sanjukta Duta. “Its always been an honour for me to be able to bring work for the much-talented woman weavers and craftsmen of Assam and revive the local art. By showcasing their craftsmanship on National and Global platforms provides a lot of encouragement to the local artisans and restores their faith in the handloom industry by turning it as a major means of livelihood. In fact, the opportunity of designing the logo of movie Sui Dhaga served as a great opportunity to draw more attention towards the richness of Assamese textile industry”, she further added.
