Tagore's drama in Xatriya Dance form

GUWAHATI, April 17: Tagore's Chandalika in Xatriya Dance form seems to have the potential to develop a new genre of dance drama. This art form too mesmerizes the audience.   Recently, a leading cultural organization of Bangladesh, Shurer Dhara, hosted a four-day cultural carnival Miloner Chonde Praner Anonde where a few artistes of Assam also took part. They performed Xatriya dance on Rabindranath Tagore's famous dance drama Chandalika and left the audience enthralled. In Bangladesh one could see a beautiful combination of Srimanta Shankardev and Rabindranath Tagore – the two best personalities of Assamese and Bangla of all times. In the cultural carnival Miloner Chonde Praner Anonde hosted by the leading cultural organization of Bangladesh, Shurer Dhara, the artistes from Assam presented by Byatikram MASDO exhibited unique style forms of Xatriya under the mentorship of Padmashree Jatin Gowami. The Xatriya dance drama performed in a Bengali dialect was so eye-pleasing that it continued for one hour 15 minutes and audience present kept their eye glued in it. The audience included Cultural Minister of Bangladesh Asadujjaman Noor too.
