Tarun Gogoi open for ties with AGP, but not with AIUDF

GUWAHATI: Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has dropped a broad hint that the Congress is ready to ally with the AGP if the regional party severs its ties with the BJP. The former Chief Minister has, however, made it clear that the Congress will never go for any such alliance with the AIUDF. He said both the BJP and the AIUDF are communal parties. Talking to the media in Guwahati on Monday, Gogoi said that in the aftermath of BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma hurling insults at the AGP questioning the party’s morality the regional party should have come out the coalition if it has regionalism still in practice. Gogoi is taken aback as to how Sarma makes such a statement that generally comes from party chiefs. Gogoi further said that Sarma is telling people that he is going to the Chief Minister of the State from December. He said that people came to know the failure of the BJP-led government at the Centre after four years, but the people of Assam came to know the failure of Sarbananda Sonowal government after just two-and-a-half years.
