Tenant Accuses House Owner of Trying To Kill Her

GUWAHATI: A 38-year-old unmarried woman, staying along with her 88-year-old father in a rented house at Dakshingaon in the Kahilipara area in Guwahati, lodged a complaint with Bhagaduttapur police outpost and the all-women police station at Panbazar alleging that the owner of the house had made an attempt to kill her with a machete suspecting her to be a witch. The house owner, on the other hand, told the police that he had asked the woman and her father to vacate the house. He also told the police that he had gone to their rented room with a machete after hearing a sound. Since he was mincing meat with the machete, while going to the room he forgot to keep it. The police, however, is yet to register any case in that connection. They want to say that it might be an outcome of a usual house owner-tenant dispute, instead of making an attempt to kill the woman by branding her a witch. The truth will come out only after investigation, they said.
