JOYSAGAR: Tension prevailed in the Assam-Nagaland border area of Sivasagar on Monday night due to the aggressive activities of unidentified Naga miscreants.

Some unidentified Naga miscreants came to the border area and warned the locals that there should not be any move from the Assam Government to construct any Assam Police Border outpost (BOP) in the Assam-Nagaland border area. Locals and Naganimora village head said that the miscreants threatened that the proposed land was historically owned by the Nagas and thereby no BOP would be allowed in Nagaland territory. The aggressive movement and alleged threats of the miscreants made local organizations and villagers upset and they came out of their houses and assembled in the Bihubar Tiniali.

They also informed the district administration authorities about the incident. District administration sources said that there was some kind of tension and hence necessary security arrangements had been made in the border area. Meanwhile, Charaideo Police, with the help of Sonari CRPF, apprehended a suspected NSCN militant with a .22 pistol and five live bullets from the Sonari-Nagaland connecting Namtula road on Monday night during routine patrolling. The accused was identified as one L.W. Konyak (37).
