Tension over youth's death in police custody

DHEKIAJULI, Nov  5: Tension prevails in the Batasipur area following the death of a youth, Monglu Praza (27), at the Dhekiajuli Police Station lock-up.

According to sources, on the night of November 3, a team of Dhekiajuli Police went for patrolling in the Batasipur area.  At that time  Monglu had a heated argument with his family members and was standing on the roadside. The Dhekiajuli Police patrolling team was its way. As soon as Monglu saw the police patrolling team, he tried to flee from the scene.  

Immediately, the police team chased him and caught him. It is alleged that the police team beat up Monglu and he was injured. Later police brought him to Dhekiajuli Police station. The next day in the morning the Dhekiajuli Police informed the family members about Monglu’s death.

Sonitpur AASA unit president Amarjit Kerketa and Dhekiajuli AASA unit president Suresh Tanti  have demanded the district administration to order a  judicial inquiry into the incident  and provide adequate compensation to the victim’s family.
