Tezpur University improves position in QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) Rankings

Tezpur: As the nation engages in festive mode, Tezpur University (TU) brings another good news to the State and to the nation by improving its position in QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) BRICS University Rankings 2019. TU now ranks 146th amongst the BRICS nations (Out of 400 institutions), which comprises of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. TU ranked 171-180th position in 2018 rankings. The ranking was declared on October 15, 2018. In India, TU ranks 36th position out of 75 Higher Learning Institutions.

This year, QS has increased the number of universities in the BRICS University ranking all the way up to 400 – an increase of 100 universities from the 2018 edition. The methodology for BRICS is based on eight indicators, i.e. academic and employer reputation, faculty, student ratio, papers per faculty, citations per paper, staff with PhD, a proportion of International Faculty and proportion of International Students. As per the QS, the sample sizes consist of over 125,000 academic and employer responses.

The other exciting development in the BRICS ranking for 2019 is that it forms the parent ranking for two new locational rankings, the QS Mainland China University Rankings 2019 and the QS India University Rankings 2019. These new rankings feature the top 100 universities in Mainland China and the top 75 Indian institutions. In the top 20 (overall ranking), Indian Institution of Technology (IIT) Bombay occupies eighth position followed by Indian Institution of Science, Bangalore (10th position), Indian Institution of Technology Madras (17th position) and Indian Institution of Technology Delhi (18th position). China’s, Tsinghua University tops the list. China is also home to 113 of the 400 BRICS universities, while Russia has 101, Brazil 90, India 86 and South Africa with 13 completes the rest of the list.
