Tezpur University shines in Festival of Innovations

Tezpur, March 14: After winning Visitor’s Best University award last year, and securing 5th place in MHRD NIRF ranking in 2016, Tezpur University shines again in the tiol level. In a prestigious recognition to Tezpur University, Professor Niranjan Karak of the Department of Chemical Sciences was jointly awarded the Visitor’s Award 2017 in ‘Research’ category along with Dr. Shyam Sundar from Baras Hindu University at the Festival of Innovations held at Rashtrapati Bhavan recently.
The Festival of Innovations is a unique initiative of the office of the President of India to recognize, respect and reward grassroots innovations and foster a supportive ecosystem, hosted in the month of March at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
Festival of Innovation, also witnessed some other notable faces of Tezpur University receiving awards. Dr. R A Mashelkar, Chairperson, Research Advisory Committee, SRISTI and NIF, honored Iftak Hussain, research scholar, Department of Physics, Tezpur University, with the prestigious BIRAC-SRISTI Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI) Award 2017. Hussain won the award for the research project ‘Low cost and field-portable smartphone platform water testing kit for detection and alysis of contamints in drinking water’.
Hussain carried his research work under the guidance of Dr. Pabitra th of Tezpur University. The other member of the team includes Dr. Kamal Uddin Ahamad, Department of Civil Engineering, Tezpur University. The whole team was felicitated during the function. The Visitor’s award (in research category) carries a citation and a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh to each individual. While the BIRAC-SRISTI GYTI award carries a citation and a project grant of Rs 15 lakh from BIRAC (Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council), a Government of India enterprise.
