Thangsabam Chinglensama clinches top position

GREEN PEDAL CHALLLENGE

SHILLONG, Aug 18: The Green Pedal Challenge 2016 which took place on   August 15 was the first Bicycle Road Race held in Meghalaya.

It was organized by Cycling Shillong and Catapult Design solutions, Shillong. The theme of the event was environment protection and to promote cycling as a green and clean altertive mode of transportation.

The race was a total of 45 kms with more than 1000 feet of climbs and it had a total of 75 participants from all over India. The race route tested the stami and the skills of each cyclist and some of them maged to rise up to the occasion.

There were three categories all together. First in the Men’s MTB category Thangsabam Chinglensama stood 1st, with a time of 1 hr 45 minutes and 29 seconds while Tendon Michael Terang and maeirakpam Chingkheinganba secured 2nd and 3rd respectively all from Imphal and representing Scott team.

In the Road bike category Amit Kumar maged to stay at the top with a time of 1 hour 42 minutes and 12 seconds and Amarjit Meitei was 2nd while Ryan Dkhar racing from Track ‘N Trail got 3rd.

In the Women’s MTB category Pragya Chand from Himachal Pradesh got the 1st (3hr 10min 54 sec) while Anissa Lamare from Shillong secured the 2nd and Sougaijam Bidya Lakshmi Lima also from Imphal got the 3rd.

Kailash Varma of Shillong was the first in the master’s category with a timing of 3hr 20 minutes and 42sec. A special prize was awarded to Asim Sharma for being the youngest finisher.
