There is a huge shortage of radiologist: NEIGHRIHMS chief

SHILLONG, Nov 4: Emphasizing on the need to make the Shillong based North East Indira Gandhi Regiol Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGHRIHMS) a more robust institute in health care, the Director of the institute Dr DM Thappa said the Radiology department has to take another yard by imparting training and recruitment of technicians into the field. He was speaking at the 43rd Annual Conference of the Assam Chapter of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association in Shillong on Saturday. Dr Thappa said that there is a shortage of radiologist in the Country and if NEIHRIMS has to grow further, there should be a mission. “To aid the radiologist, we need good technicians and I wish that we should have a diploma course in our institute to improve the medical services,” stated the Director of NEIGHRIMS. Source said that a proposal for the same has already been made and is awaiting approval. Speaking at the event, Director General of Assam Rifles Lt General Shokin Chauhan said, “The role of technology is fast evolving entity and radiology is a specialty that is technological, intensive and hence become more empirical.” The two-day conference is being attended by medical professiols from India and abroad.
