Three BDOs suspended over Alleged Underperformance

GUWAHATI, Sept 21: Dispur has placed three block development officers (BDOs) under suspension and set the alarm bells ringing among the underperforming officials in the State, especially those who are on the job of implementing various flagship schemes of the Central Government.

The three BDOs suspended on Friday are – Girish Chandra Baishya of Lala Development Block, Ranjit Kalita of Borjelenga Development Block and Saroj Das of Ramkrishna Nagar and North Karimganj Development Block. What is common in the suspension of the three BDOs is their underperformance in the implementation of government schemes. Girish Chandra Baishya has been placed under suspension for the submission of a vague inquiry report against the misappropriation of MGNREGA fund and unsatisfactory performance in carrying out the assignment of PMAY-G, besides his absence at a DISHA (District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee) meeting when the Assembly was in session from February 10 to 15, without prior intimation.

While Borjelenga BDO Ranjit Kalita has been suspended for the violation of a government order by not maintaining the minimum 65 per cent of expenditure on NRM-related works in MGNREGA and unsatisfactory performance in carrying out the assignment of PMAY-G, Ramkrishna Nagar and North Karimganj BDO Saroj Das has also been suspended for the violation of a government order by not maintaining the minimum 65 per cent of expenditure on NRM-related works in MGNREGA in both the blocks, besides unsatisfactory performance in carrying out the assignment of PMAY-G. According to official sources, instructions were issued to all BDOs during review meetings, but they did not pay any attention and acted in a manner that has hampered the pace of progress of the flagship programmes of the Central Government.
