Three critically injured in tusker attack

KHERONI, March 11: Three persons including two children were attacked and critically injured by a wild elephant at Kheroni’s Bagisadubi  in West Karbi Anglong on Friday morning. They are Bholu Mishra (22), Golu Mishra (4) and Puja Pachi (13) under Kheroni Southern Range office in West Karbi Anglong.

According to sources, the incident occurred at around 5.30 am just after the herd of elephant left that village for Kheroni forest reserve. When the villagers came out of their houses to go to their paddy fields, a wild elephant came charging towards them. They fled in order to save their lives but the elephant hit Golu Mishra from behind and then attacked Bholu Mishra and Puja Pachi. After that the wild elephant left the area.  The three injured are in a critical stage and they have been sent to Hojai Hospital for proper medical treatment.

For the past few years, wild pachyderms have been creating problems for villagers of Bagisadubi, Matikhola, Memaru and Phelangpi areas under Kheroni Southern Forest Range.
