Three Local Political Parties Forms an Alliance in Mizoram

Mizoram witnesses a major alliance of three of its political parties ahead of the Assembly elections. As the Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in December, the political parties of the state seem to have buckled up well. The regional parties to join hands are Peoples’ Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram, Mizoram Chhantu Pawl or Save Mizoram Front and Operation Mizoram.

Notably, of the 40 seats in the Mizoram Assembly, the Congress holds 34. Hence, this is the time for the local political parties to come forward together. The convener of Operation Mizoram party, Vanlalhuma Kawlni said, “We will strive to bring all of Mizoram under the Sixth Schedule, end border disputes with Assam and drive out illegal immigrants.”

This is not the first time that Mizoram political parties have formed an alliance to contest in the elections. Before this as well, the Zoram Nationalist Party, Mizoram People’s Conference and Zoram Exodus Movement had forged an alliance and the new party was named as the Zoram People’s Movement. This alliance was formed a year ago in order to remove the Congress from power.
