MANGALDAI, August 8: How secure and safe are the little inmates of the Don Bosco Children Home in Mangaldai? How serious is the authority of Don Bosco towards the minor inmates of the children home who belong to the economically weaker section? While the installation of the statue of Don Bosco in Guwahati has been surrounded by controversy, at the same time the alleged lackadaisical and indifferent attitude of the Don Bosco authority in Mangaldai has come to the light following the recovery of three minor children, including two girls, staying in the children home from a passenger vehicle under mysterious condition.

Though it has been suspected that the three children were abducted by an anti -social group, but the Don Bosco officials here tried to term it as escape of the three minors due to home sickness. Significantly, at the prompt and timely intervention of an office bearer of All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), all the three minors were recovered without any harm.

Andriya Sangma (7), daughter of Supriya Sangma, Rahan Sangma (4), son of Jonti Sangma and Priya Sangma (5), daughter of Kinki Marak, all of village Garogaon near Bhakatpara have been staying in the Don Bosco Children Home in Mangaldai and all the three had come back to the children home four days back after spending the summer vacation with their parents. On August 7, all the three were seen travelling in a passenger vehicle and on seeing the crying children in the passenger vehicle, an office bearer of the local unit of ABSU intercepted the vehicle at Mepara Chowk and took them out of the vehicle. On getting their identity, the office bearers of the ABSU took them to the office of the ABSU at Bhakatpara and handed them over to the family members. Meanwhile, three office bearers of Don Bosco at Mangaldai also reached there. According to the office bearers of the Don Bosco, they had no idea about the escape of the children. But a conscious circle did not rule out the possibility of the involvement of the gang of child lifters who might have taken out the children from the Don Bosco Children Home posing as their guardians.
