TANGLA, Nov 8: The three girls who went missing  from Dhansirighat of Orang in Udalguri district on Saturday, were rescued from Rangia railway station on Monday.

Reportedly, the three girls - mrata Karki Chetry (14), Pratiksha Bhattarai (14) and Manika Devi Ghimire (14) - went missing on the evening of November 5. Contrary to the family members and local people’s suspicion that the girls might have fallen prey to human trafficking groups which are active in this part of the State, the girls had fled from home.

The girls, with whatever savings they had, maged to travel to Rangia railway station but when they were left out with no money, they contacted some relatives over phone for some money. The relatives in turn informed the family members who later rescued the girls from Rangia railway station on Monday.

“Though prima-facie this seems to be a case of running away from home, we are looking for other angles in this case,” said a senior police officer. All the three girls, who are inhabitants of Jamuguri village of Dhansrighat under Orang PS in Udalguri, are in good health condition.
