Three-Tier Security Ahead of Lok Sabha Poll Vote Counting

GUWAHATI: The Kamrup (M) district administration is all prepared for the counting of Lok Sabha poll votes to be held on May 23.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner Biswajeet Pegu said that all arrangements are being made to ensure smooth conduct of counting of votes. “All the obligatory steps are in motion to ascertain that there is no setback in counting. Security surrounding the counting centres and the strong rooms has been beefed up. Counting will be held in 56 separate tables. Along with all EVMs used in LS election of four Assembly segments of Kamrup (M) district, 20 VVPAT machines are to be counted”, the DC said.

The DC further stated that a three-tier security has been arranged in the counting centre, where the use of cell phones and cameras are strictly prohibited. The poll counting is to be held in Maniram Dewan Trade Centre in the city. In Assam, Lok Sabha poll was held in three phases on April 11, 18 and 23, and the Guwahati constituency elections were held on the third phase. The four Assembly segments of Kamrup (M) will have the votes counted on May 23 itself. The VVPAT counting will be as per the Supreme Court's directive. In each constituency, five VVPATs will be taken into counting summing up the total to 20 VVPAT counting in Kamrup (M). However, the VVPAT will be counted after the EVM counting concludes.
