Three-tier security system deployed for Guwahati ODI Series

GUWAHATI: A three-tier security system has been put in place for the first match of the 5-game ODI Series which will start in Guwahati on Sunday.

Talking to the media persons on the eve of the game Director General of Assam Police Kuladhar Saikia said, “A foolproof three-tier security plan is in place and no lapses have been made. We had taken all steps to avoid any untoward incidents which included inside the stadium and the road that will be used by the players during their journey from Hotel to Stadium and back.”

Although he denied giving exact numbers of security officials whom are deployed for match related security but said, “The number is quite good. I hope combined effort of our security personnel will help the cricket lovers of the city to witness a good match and return home safely.”

DGP also said,“Although last time a stone pelting incident was held in the bus of Australia but we have made elaborate arrangement so that there is no repetition of that incident this time.”

Spectators will be allowed only a few things to carry at the time of entering into the stadium. Announcing the list of items which are permissible the Joint Commissioner of Police (Guwahati) Diganta Borah said, “Mobile phone, wallet and baby food along with national flag, without stick, will be allowed to take inside the stadium. There would altogether five main gate in the complex which would be use for crowed movement and all will open at 11-00 am”.

He also added: “No one will be allowed to make second entry into the stadium. If a person, holding valid tickets, wants to go outside the stadium complex he would be allowed to go but his re-entry would not be allowed as separate persons can make entry with that used tickets.”

Meanwhile movement of traffic will be restricted around the ACA stadium from tomorrow morning. Spectators can park their vehicle only at the dedicated parking areas. Elaborating the traffic plans for tomorrow’s match the DCP of Police (Traffic) Amanjeet Kaur said, “The road between Sarabvati to Lokhra would be one way tomorrow and vehicles can move only from Sarabvati to Lokhra. No vehicles would be allowed to come from opposite direction. Similarly the spectators who will come from Beltola or Maligaon regions through National Highway will be allowed to go stadium from Garchuk Chairiali. Traffic movement would be both way in that road.”

There would altogether 25 dedicated parking places along the two roads which spectators can be used to park their vehicles. She also made it clear that except valid parking passes no vehicles would be allowed to get entry into the stadium.

The Vice President of the Assam Cricket Association Debojit Saikia today said that the Assam Cricket Association is expecting full house in tomorrow’s game.“The capacity of the stadium is 38,737. As per the new rules 90 percent of the tickets are placed for sale online and most of the tickets were sold within a couple of days. However nearly 4000 tickets have returned from different district quotas and we have placed it for online sale and we are hopeful that all will be sold before the match.”
