Three UDF MLAs Start Indefinite Satyagraha disturbing Assembly Proceedings in Kerala

Guwahati: This is the fourth day of Assembly proceeding in Kerala on Monday and for the fourth day as well, the Opposition party of the state, United Democratic Front (UDF) has disrupted the proceedings. On Monday, three MLAs of the opposition party have set on an indefinite satyagraha at the entrance of the Assembly showing their protest to the imposition of ban orders and lack of basic amenities in Sabarimala.

The announcement of satyagraha decision was made by opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala in the Assembly. The MLAs to go on the protest are V.S. Sivakumar (Congress), N. Jayaraj (Kerala Congress (M)) and Parakkal Abdulla (IUML). The main objective of the indefinite strike is to protest the government’s refusal to concede the demand put by their party for eliminating the ban orders and address inconveniences of Sabarimala pilgrims.

The opposition leader also added that his party wanted to raise the issues of the people in the Assembly and is always ready to cooperate in conducting the legislative business.

UDF’s decision for satyagraha is welcomed by the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan but the CM also adds that the Sabarimala agitation has now shifted to the Secretariat. Before this, the Sangh Parivar and the BJP had winded up their agitation in Sabarimala. Vijayan adds that now the UDF is also following the same line.

Opposition leader, however, accused CM only and said that his party does not need CM’s permission to go on agitation. Chennithalaalso blamed Chief Minister of providing facilities to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) which led to the outbreak of violence in Sabarimala.

Mr. Chennithala while speaking to the media added that responsibility of stalling the proceedings vests with the Chief Minister. But in contrary to that, the CM was acting as the secretary of the CPI(M). The opposition leader also alleges the CM of passing a note to the Speaker which might be a direction to wind up the proceedings.
