Three-wheelers causing pollution in Dhubri

FROM A Correspondent
DHUBRI, Aug 20: The increasing number of three wheelers in a small town like Dhubri is causing immense problem to its residents living by the roadside. Dhubri town comprises one single main road and other lanes. The rrow main road is always choc-a-bloc with vehicles and so is accident prone. This problem can be solved only by constructing an overbridge at Sen Para Railway crossing and making more bylanes. A few more years are needed to complete the exercise, considering the ongoing development works. However, the increasing number of three wheelers has added to the problems of noise and air pollution, as the vehicles are diesel-operated and they expel poisonous carbon compounds, along with smoke which are harmful for human health. All through the day, the inhabitants by the road, experience black odourous smoke and incessant noise. Despite such condition, neither the Pollution Control Board nor the District Transport Department is seen to be concerned over the issue. When asked about the problem, one official of the District Transport Department, did not show any interest in the problem, rather informed that the three wheelers have been permitted by the higher authorities of the department and hence the district department has nothing to do with it.
