Tigress captured in Tezpur

Tezpur, August 3: A panic situation prevailing over the last few days concluded with the assiduous efforts of the Sonitpur Forest Division (West). A tigress had crossed the mighty Brahmaputra due to massive floods from Kaziranga tiol Park (KNP) and taken shelter at Dolabari in the campus of NERIWALM (North East Regiol Institute of Water and Land Magement).  The tigress attacked three people and injured them. One of them was shifted to GMC for better treatment. As the tigress was not leaving the campus, filly it was decided to capture the tigress by chemical sedation. A team of veteriry doctors from the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRD) of Borjuri unit filly captured the tigress on Wednesday and gave first aid treatment for the minor abrasions on the body of the animal. The team present in the field has decided, in consultation with the Chief Wildlife Warden, to release the tigress in the wild, forest officials Said. The success of the capture of the tigress and its safe release in the wild may be attributed to the administrative department, police department and civil society groups for their semil role in containing movement of  people close to the location of the tigress and making provision for adequate security in the event of some untoward development in the process of capturing of the tigress.
