FROM A CORRESPONDENT
KHERONI, June 17: A timber-laden truck was seized along Assam-Meghalaya boarder on Thursday. In a joint operation by forest department officials and the police of Mokoilum police out-post, a truck of Meghalaya bearing registration number ML-04-5230 carrying timber was seized at Khatkasla in West Karbi Anglong district. The truck was seized while on its way towards Meghalaya from the Assam. The truck along with the logs has been brought to the forest office at Kheroni which was 60 km away from the spot. Surprisingly they did not able to arrest any timber smugglers. The sources of the forest department said that for the past several years smugglers from the neighboring state have been continuously felling trees in the Karbi Anglong district.
