A Correspondent

Doomdooma, July 11: The Tinsukia District Journalists’ Association (TDJA) reinstated its secretary Manoranjan Das who was temporarily relieved of his post following widely circulated news coverage by the media about his involvement in an extortion case along with eight others on May 17 at Digboi. In an FIR filed by one BC Sharma at Digboi Police Station, it was complained that nine persons, including Das, had extorted Rs 63,000 by intercepting his timber-laden truck on that day at Tingrai Tiniali. Following this, a five-member enquiry committee was instituted by TDJA to enquire into the matter. The enquiry committee submitted its report to the executive meeting on June 4 and relieved Manoranjan Das of the entire charges levelled against him. However, in view of the matter being subjudice at that time, TDJA resolved to keep its decision in abeyance till his acquittal in the court. On receiving a certified copy of a Final Report (FR) submitted by Digboi PS from the court, TDJA in its executive held at Doomdooma Press Club on Sunday resolved to reinstate Manoranjan Das as secretary.
