SHILLONG, April 6: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma on Friday said that the tiol Games to be hosted by Meghalaya in 2022 will have the capacity to catapult the state forward.
Replying to the motion of thanks to the Governor’s Address, Conrad said that the 2022 games will impact the state in many ways.
The Chief Minister said that apart from the sporting infrastructures like stadia and Games Village that have to be built other facilities like airports, hotels, better roads, power supply, water supply will also have to come up soon.
Admitting that the days ahead for his government is challenging, Conrad said, “The current infrastructures are definitely not enough to host the games.”
On honing the skills of the athletes from the state so that Meghalaya can win medals in the Games, Conrad said that certain disciplines will be identified wherein the state’s sportsperson are excelling and proper training will be impart to them.
Referring to the traffic congestion issue in Shillong city, he said the group of Ministers (GoM) will look into the decongesting of the towns ahead of the tiol Games.
The GoM is chaired by the Chief Minister himself and includes Minister for Urban Affairs, PWD Minister and Ministers from Revenue and Transport departments.
Conrad also pointed out that the State Government is looking at the possibility of having multiple entry and exit points for Shillong city besides some other roads like the Western Bypass that are also coming up and will provide multiple entry and exit points into the city.
