tiol media reports have hurt me: HSLC topper

GUWAHATI, June 8: This year’s HSLC topper Sarfaraz Hussain has said a section of the tiol media cooking a news report out of his topping the HSLC examitions in Assam has hurt him.  

The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) today felicitated the toppers of High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC), Assam High Madrassa (AHM) and HS examitions, and those who made it to the fil list of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) selection. The teachers of the institutions where the toppers came from were also felicitated at the function.

As many as 232 HSLC toppers and 126 teachers, four toppers and four teachers of AHM, 55 toppers and 35 teachers of all the HS streams, and six UPSC crackers were felicitated, in all. Each of them was given a felicitation citation, a bag, a memento and a book card worth Rs 1,000. The HSLC topper and the three toppers in the three HS streams were separately given a memento and book card each by the family members of Rebati Mohan Dutta Choudhury.

AASU chief adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya, president Dipanka Kumar th, general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi, retired justice Biplab Kumar Sarma as the chief guest and galand University VC Dr. Bolin Kumar Konwar as the guest of honour were present at the function.

Justice (retd) Sarma said: “There’s much space for the improvement of the education sector in the state.”

Talking to The Sentinel, HSLC topper Sarfaraz Hussain said: “I’m mesmerised to have come to such a felicitation function. Such functions encourage us to do better.”

Reacting to the reports in a section of tiol media highlighting a Muslim student schooled in an RSS-run school topping the HSLC examition, Sarfaraz said: “There shouldn’t be such talks or reports on education and students. Such an act has hurt me.”
