tiol Sorting Hub to be introduced in Dibrugarh soon

From our Staff Correspondent

Dibrugah, Oct 11:Chief Post Master General, Assam Postal Circle,Vasumitra will be visiting tiol Sorting Hub,Dibrugarh for introducing tiol Sorting Hub here on October 13.

This assumes importance in the wake of recent unprecedented strides e-commerce business has made in Dibrugarh Postal Region, largely comprising of Dibrugarh, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Tinsukia, Sivsagar, Jorhat, Morigaon, Sori, Golaghat and gaon. With the current festivities underway in the region, e-commerce business has clocked 100 times increase articles over the previous year. The vital link in this e-commerce business is logistics support provided by India Post. India Post had silently geared up to take up this challenge by adopting two strategies.

It was long felt that Dibrugarh can become a gateway for the whole of Upper Assam due to its good air connectivity with Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati and Jaipur. But this could be put to use only when mail and parcel business is routed through airlines providing connectivity to and from Dibrugarh. This facility, when put to use, reduced the burden of Guwahati as well as Kolkata as now the postal and e-commerce were given airlift from the rest of the country and were opened only inDibrugarh upon arrival. This strategy has paid off as the transit time between major destitions like Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati to Dibrugarh has been reduced to one or two days. Now any article booked in Delhi on October 13 can be delivered in Dibrugarh town on October 15, though it will take one or more days for the rural areas of Dibrugarhdistrict.

This logistics arrangement has been encashed  byFlipkart, Amazon, aptol, e Bay and other logistics companies. Today all the major e-commerce companies provide Cash on Delivery services to Dibrugarhregion. These e-commerce companies are riding on the excellent postal network provided by India Post.

India Post has geared up itself with the increasing volume of incoming articles that need to be delivered at the doorstep of customers. Since the growth in volume terms was akin to deluge, an out-of-box thinking was required to satisfy the needs of ever demanding customers. It was thought fit if the delivery by the postmen was mechanized in Dibrugarhregion. Accordingly, 38 bikes have been initially requisitioned as an experimental measure and after initial hiccups, these bikes are being dedicated to people of Dibrugarhregion by Chief Post Master General, Assam Circle, Vasumitra. In case this speeds up the last mile connectivity, the mechanized delivery will be extended to the beats receiving substantial volume of e-commerce articles.

With this backward and forward integration, India Post hopes to maintain its numerouno position as preferred business partner in Dibrugarhregion. People of Dibrugarhregion can contact Mager, tiol Sorting Hub,  SamrendraSengupta on 9864234954 in case they feel any difficulty in receiving e-commerce articles. They can also log on  towww.indiapost.gov.in  for track and trace of their e-commerce and other accountable articles.
