Tirap celebrates International Widows Day

ITANAGAR, June 25: The International Widows Day was celebrated at New Tupi village, 14 km away from Khonsa, the headquarters of Tirap district amidst a huge gathering of 198 widows from 13 villages under the district and the Church members. Speaking on the occasion, Tirap DC P N Thungon exhorted the women to live their life happily by fruitfully engaging themselves in some economic activities through the Prime Minister's and Chief Minister's flagship programmes, an official report informed here. He stated that benefits can be availed from schemes like CM Krishi Rinn Yojana, CM Swavalamban Yojana, PM Jan Dhan Yojana, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Bunkar Yojana for women weavers, PM Ujjwala Yojana, Dulari Kanya Yojana, PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, PM Suraksha Bima Yojana.

However to avail these benefits, the DC asked them to obtain mandatory documents namely the Aadhar card, bank account, ST certificate etc for which he assured to conduct special 'Jan-Sunwai' exclusively for widow of the district.

He called upon the Tirap Chief Council, GBs, educated youth and people from all walks of life to provide the widows with all possible help for the cause of their empowerment and recognition in the society.

He also asked them not to discriminate the widows, while stating that the women are the backbone of any society. The DC urged the government departments to provide technical know-how about various schemes under PM/CM flagship programme to widows in particular and general public of the district as a whole.
