Tirap reeling under power crisis

FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT

Itagar, June 10: Troubled Tirap district in Aruchal Pradesh is reeling under darkness for the past three days forcing the people to taste untold suffering in the rising summer temperature.

The residents especially the hospitals and educatiol institutions are facing a harrowing time as people are compelled to be dependent on candles and lanterns, an official report informed here today.   However, the concerned department led by Power Executive Engineer Tami Jerang himself is working round the clock in spite of inclement weather condition, especially in the afternoon to restore the power supplies as soon as possible.

When contacted EE Jerang said, “Since Monday, the 220 KV Kathalguri- Deomali EHV line got tripped and there was an earth fault at 8.9 km from the source of power supply. Even after restoration of the faulty power line, the 220 KV circuit breaker is malfunctioning.”

“The JE, transmission, planning and monitoring zone tried to replace the closing and tripping coil but without any success due to mechanical sg. This was informed to me by a staff of my Assam counterpart and the JE in-charge of the sub-station of Kathalguri-Deomali EHV line. It may take some more time to fully restore the power supplies,” he added.

Jerang has further appealed to all the consumers to bear with the department and extend their cooperation saying that the present crisis was due to a major mechanical failure.

He also assured to leave no stone unturned to ensure that power supply was restored at the earliest saying that he was alive to the great hardships being faced by the people, the report added.
