Top athletes confirm participation in Guwahati meet

GUWAHATI, June 13: All the top performers in Indian athletes including Assam girl Hima Das will take part in the forthcoming 58th National Inter State Senior Athletic championship which will be held at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium here from June 26. Hima Das is also named as the Brand Ambassador of the championship.

Disclosing the news in a media conference the president of the organizing committee Lakhya Konwar said, “ The competition will serve as the main selection trial for the forthcoming Asian Games scheduled to be held in Jakarta. So all the top stars of the country including javeline thrower Neeraj Chopra, discuss thrower Navjeet Kaur Dhilion are eagerly waiting to take part in this meet and they also confirmed their participation.”

Assam girl Hima Das will arrive in the city on June 21. She would be followed by all other national camp athletes who are currently undergoing training in Poland and Finland. The other athletes from different states are expected to arrive in the city from June 24. There would be altogether 22 track and field events in the championship. As per the schedule the competition would be held in two sessions-morning and afternoon. Morning session will begin on 6-45 AM while the evening session will kick off on 3-15PM. The media briefing was also attended by the secretary of the Assam Athletic Association Pradip Nunisa.
