Top award for State’s Living Root Bridges

SHILLONG, March 6: The President of India, Prab Mukherjee gave away the awards to the best grassroots innovators of the country in an event at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on 4th March 2017.

These innovators were identified for recognition by tiol Innovation Foundation-India (NIF) during its 9th tiol Biennial Competition, which ran from April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2015 and saw over 33,000 submissions for the same.

Amongst these, the communities growing Living Root Bridges from Meghalaya were few of the winners of the award under the tiol category. This is the first time that all communities who are engaged in developing living root bridges in the state have to receive such recognition and award.

The much awaited award function was organised at Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre on 4th March 2017 at 10.30 am.

A total of 62 awards were given to 73 innovators, traditiol knowledge holders and community representatives in the function, coming from 22 States and Union Territories of the country.
