Top boxers to participate in tiol boxing

GUWAHATI, Nov 15: All the top boxers of the country will take part in the forthcoming 1st Elite (Senior) Men tiol Boxing Championship which will be held in Guwahati from December 8. Assam Amateur Boxing Association will organize the event at the bin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor stadium in the city.

Key officials of the Boxing Federation of India today visited the city to inspect the preparation of the meet. Later talking to the media person the Secretary General of the Boxing Federation of India Joy Kowli said, “It’s a very important tourment for us. We will try our best to make it a grand success.”

Assam already hosted several tiol as well as Intertiol boxing competition. However it is the first occasion when Assam Amateur Boxing Association will organize men’s tiol Boxing championship in the State.  

Kowli today confirmed that all the top boxers of the country will present in Guwahai to participate in the championship. “Boxing Federation of India has already taken necessary steps to ensure the participation of all the top boxers of the country and no boxers will be allowed to join in the tiol Camp unless he participated in this competition,” said Kowli.

Shiva Thapa, as expected, will lead Assam in the tourment. Other top ranked boxers including Olympian Manoj Kumar and Vikas Krishan already confirmed their participation.  

Apart from Kowli the media briefing was also attended by observer of Boxing Federation of India Asit Banerjee, it’s vice President John F Kharsing, Joint Secretary Swapan Banerjee, Deputy Director of the Sports and Youth Welfare Department Pradip Hazarika, Directorof SAI, Guwahati Subhash Basumatari, President and the Secretary of the Assam Amateur Boxing Association Kalikanta Boro and Hemanta Kalita respectively along with working President of the Organizing committee Jadav Deka.

Hemanta Kalita today said, “The meet will be held in 10 weight categories and around 400 boxers and officials are expected to participate in the tourment. The fil preparatory camp for the Assam team will start from tomorrow.”

Meanwhile Kowli today informed the media that BFI will organize six academies in the different parts of the country and one of them may set up in Guwahati.
