Tourist drivers stage rally, condemn girl's murder

SHILLONG, May 13: Tourist drivers under the banner of Mairang Indica Owners’ and Drivers’ Association today carried out a rally to show solidarity and to condemn the recent murder of a young girl in the village by her uncle.
 All the vehicles that participated in the rally put up black flags and placards and carried out a silent march through Pyndengumiong and also paid a flora tribute to the unfortute minor who was raped and murdered.
In his speech, D. Kharmawlong, president of the MIODA, expressed deep remorse and solidarity towards the family of the victim.
Meanwhile the association while condemning this gruesome incident has also urged all the people to stay vigilant and to immediately inform the authority concern if they learnt of such kind of incidents.
It may be mentioned that a seven-year-old girl was killed on May 7 at Umthied Bynther in West Khasi Hills after she resisted her uncle’s sexual advances. The accused Balajied Nongrum has been arrested.
