Traders booked under LM Act

Itagar, Aug 20: In a surprise inspection led by Assistant Controller (LM) of Papum Pare Amrit Taba, along with the jurisdictiol Inspector (LM) Gamkhong Singpho of Itagar unit of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs department, 14 traders were booked for irregularities and violation of the provisions of Legal Metrology Act and Rules on August 18 last. Traders were found using unverified weights & measures during commercial transactions, which attract pel section under Legal Metrology Act, 2009, a press release said here today. The surprise inspection was conducted in and around Vivek Vihar and Chandragar area, Itagar. While reminding the traders to get their weights and measures duly  verified in time, the Department also appeals each and every  responsible citizen to come forward with their grievances and lodge complaints to the nearest Consumer Fora and to discharge their duties as a consumer in asserting their legitimate rights as enshrined by the Constitution. Expressing difficulties in smooth enforcement, as general public are reluctant to co-operate and come out as witness during course of raids, search and seizure, the Department requested common citizen to come forward with their grievances to lodge complaints either to the Legal Metrology Officers or in appropriate Consumer Fora established by the Government throughout the State.
