Traditiol bodies oppose MUDA Building Bye-laws

SHILLONG, Aug 27: In a meeting organized by the KHADC in which Traditiol Heads, Syiem (Chief), Sordar including others from various districts participated today decided to accept the Appointment and Succession of Chiefs and Headman Rules 2015 while opposing the MUDA Building Bye-Laws which has encroached towards areas under the jurisdiction of the District Council.

“The headmen have agreed to accept the Appointment and Succession of Chiefs and Headman Rules 2015 and if there is a need to make this bill better we can always bring amendments and this agreement of the headmen today we will also announce it during the Grand Dorbar scheduled at Polo ground on 5 September,” CEM KHADC PN Syiem told media person after the meeting.

Syiem informed that during the meeting they have also expressed their strong opposition towards the state government’s new notification of MUDA Building Bye-Laws which has included areas under the jurisdiction of the District Council.

“We will carry this resolution to the Grand Dorbar and if any further decision comes out during the Dorbar at Polo ground we will put it in front of the state government,” Syiem said.

The CEM stated that the 10 Census Towns which has been included in the MUDA Building Bye-Laws are also against the encroachment of MUDA and that they are demanding MUDA to immediately withdraw their inclusion from the new notification since their area are scheduled areas and under the jurisdiction of the District Council.
