Traditiol Dorbar Bill passed, HSPDP stages walkout

SHILLONG, March 3: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) members staged a walkout after the KHADC CEM PN Syiem tabled the Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Constitution of Council of Traditiol Dorbar) Bill, 2016 which aims to bring together the traditiol chiefs and strengthen the traditiol system of governce on last day of the budget session of the KHADC here on Thursday.

Mylliem MDC, Teilinia Thangkhiew and Sohryngkham MDC Pyniaid Sing Syiem, before the Bill was tabled stated that they were not content with the Bill and had hoped that the Executive Committee (EC) should have examined it properly first before taking the decision to pass the Bill. It may be recalled that on the first day of the budget session members of the HSPDP had opposed the introduction of the Bill.

The KHADC Chairperson Manstudy Nongrem later announced the passing of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Constitution of Council of Traditiol Dorbar) Bill, 2016 after getting the approval from the members of the house.

Meanwhile, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Conservation and Promotion of Khasi Social Customs and Traditions) Bill, 2016, which stress on the need to conserve and promote the traditions and culture of the Khasis was also passed during the budget session of the KHADC.
