Traffic woes in Nagaon town, poor management by traffic personnel flayed

A Correspondent

NAGAON: Traffic in Nagaon town has become a major concern due to alleged negligence of the police itself as well as poor management of the newly-appointed traffic in-charge of the Nagaon traffic branch. As per allegation made by some public bodies, instead of controlling the traffic congestion on roads, the traffic police personnel allegedly prefer to impose penalties, cess or other forms of fine on violators of traffic rules.

According to the joint secretary to the central committee of Krishak Sramik Unnayan Parishad, Utpal Boruah and district secretary of the farmers’ organization, Amlan Jyoti Mahanta, due to poor management of traffic, unrestricted movement of vehicles on roads of the town remains a distant dream.

Boruah and Mahanta further reiterated in a recent interaction with this correspondent that local MLA Rupak Sarma and Union Minister of State for Railways, Rajen Gohain were trying their best to solve the traffic problem in the town and in the old main NH 37 road throughout the town from Bebejia towards Uriagaon bypass Chariali.

But due to alleged negligence of Nagaon traffic and its poor management, traffic congestion continues to be a concern even after roads of the town were improved or new traffic diversions were made in the town. Both leaders of the farmers’ organization alleged that the traffic police personnel usually gave priority to collecting or imposing cess or penalties on traffic rule violators. They urged the district authority concerned to take stringent measures to solve the traffic problem of the town.
