Train service starts between Guwahati and Mukongsalek

 Lakhimpur, August 10:  The discontinuation of meter gauge trains has made the people of Lakhimpur and its adjoining areas unfamiliar to train journeys for many years. Although there was railway communication till Harmutty junction, the people of Lakhimpur faced problems travelling to Harmutty due to the distance between the two places. Filly, after a long wait, the broad gauge rail service from Mukongsalek of Joi to Guwahati via North Lakhimpur was started on Monday.

The Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu iugurated the train service between Mukongsalek-Guwahati via telecommunication technology at 12.30 pm and from Tuesday there will be two regular intercity express trains between Guwahati and Mukongsalek.

Chief  railway official Nipendra Bhatacharya said that the intercity express from Guwahati to Mukongsalek will start at 8.55 am and reach Mukongsalek at 9.30 pm. On the other hand, another intercity train will return from Mukongsalek at 11 pm and reach Guwahati next day at 12.30 pm.  Moreover, from Tuesday the Railway minister will introduce train service between Dekagaon-Bhalukpung, Dekagaon-Harmutty and Rangia-Rangapara to develop the communication facilities.

The introduction of railway service between Guwahati and Mukongsalek has brought a lot of cheer among the people of Lakhimpur but they pointed out that the train would reach North Lakhimpur station at around 2 am.
