Treatment of tea workers under Central Government Health scheme at Tezpur, Assam

Tezpur July 20: A general meeting was held at the Assistant Labour Commissioner’s office premises under the chairmanship of PK Lahkar, special member of the medical advisory board for plantation workers regarding tea garden workers’ treatment under Central Government Health scheme (CGHS). The meeting was attended by M. Baruah, secretary, ABITA, B Ghosh, assistant secretary, TAI and tea garden management of Sonitpur district, authority of Baptist Christian hospital and others.

PK Lahkar stated that Baptist Christian Hospital Tezpur agreed to provide treatment to critical cases of tea garden workers as per Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS). It was a long pending demand of both workers union and staff union of tea gardens. Some other hospitals of the state also agreed to provide treatment to the tea garden workers as per the direction of Labour Minister, Pallab Lochan Das, Lahkar added.
