Tree plantation drive by Lion’s Club of Shillong

SHILLONG, Aug 16: Lion’s Club of Shillong, in collaboration with Department of Forest & Conservation and Meehen Infratech, organised a massive tree plantation at Ladmawphlang, Sohra in which over 700 saplings were planted along with the help of the members of Lion’s Club of Shillong, DFO, school students and general public. The chief guest on the occasion was honourable MLA of Sohra Constituency, Mr Gavin Miguel Mylliem who in his speech congratulated Lion’s Club for organising this massive tree plantation programme, which will not only beautify the area but would also help in preserving the environment.

Earlier, the President of the Lion Club of Shillong, Lion Dilip Bose offered his welcome address and said that environment protection is of paramount importance and Lion Club is committed to save and preserve environment. He reminded that temperature is going up in the region and rainfall is decreasing causing imbalance in the environment. Mr. Dipyan Singh the Chairman of Lion Club of Shillong also address the gathering and assured that Lion Club will take every possible step to see that tree grows. He also mentioned that many of these trees are of his special varieties in nature, including the Cherry Blossom which will add beauty to the region. The Region Chairman of Lion Club, Lion H.K Vaid also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the programme.
