Tripura Check Post Work Halted Due To Bangla Objection

Agartala: The massive work to modernize the Muhurighat Check Post in Belonia sub-division of South Tripura district has put on hold due to objection from the Border Guard Bangladesh. It is learnt that a local level meeting was held on the matter but failed to bring find a solution.

It is learnt that the Centre has sanctioned Rs 13 crore at least six years ago, but the work was getting delayed due to various reason. Recently the contractor went to the site with his workers to start work when the BGB raised objection. They said as per the bipartite agreement, neither sides is allowed to raise any permanent construction within 150 yards from the zero point of the border.

Recently, Brigadier of BGB Md Jakir Hussain on his posting in this area visited the Indian side of the Check Post to meet his Indian counterpart, Commanding officer of the BSF Dipak Tiwari. It is learnt that the matter was informally discussed in the meeting but nothing transpired.

Muhurighat is one of the oldest border posts in the State through which people travel with passports since long but the structure of the office remained in a dilapidated condition.

Local people are very much frustrated over the BGB objection and suspension of work. However, it is learnt that the matter has been taken up with New Delhi and Dhaka and a solution is expected to be found soon.
