Agartala: The landslide victory of the BJP, both in the national and State levels, is likely to have some serious fallout in Tripura. According to sources, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb is going to undertake a major reshuffle and expansion of his ministry. What was speculation got credence from sources in the BJP on Friday. The sources have not given any date for the likely changes but indicated that something is going to happen very soon.
All eyes are on the possible reshuffle in the State Cabinet which was long pending as three berths have remained vacant from the beginning.
Apart from filling up of these berths, some ministers being dropped from the Cabinet is gaining more and more ground.
The strained relation between the Chief Minister and Health Minister Sudip Roy Barman is well known not only in political circles but is a matter of public discussion. Sources in the party indicate that in the reshuffle, the Chief Minister may try to trim the Health Department.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in the last few days has indicated more than once that there are some black sheep in the administration which have already been identified.
Moreover, it is learnt that he is not happy with the performance of some of his colleagues. It is learnt that the party leadership today had an informal review of the election results and found that the vote share of Congress was unexpected.
The leaders feel that role of ‘betrayers’ in the State BJP were partly responsible for the high percentage of votes garnered by the Congress.
